a STUDIO for People + Planet
‘Our Heart is in the Work’
—Andrew Carnegie, founder of Carnegie-Mellon University
SimmonsSTUDIO Architects LLC was conceived of by founder Bob Simmons as an ideas-based studio focused on wellness + health for both PEOPLE + PLANET: a STUDIO for Living.
The practice focuses on sustainable place-making design for campuses and cities, for both private clients and public institutions.
The STUDIO is envisioned to create a better model for how architecture is practiced, one that looks to nature for inspiration, to a project’s site to draw meaning from local culture and traditions, to celebrate regional materiality, and to elevate CRAFT to make truly
sustainable buildings that can both endure and be adaptable to the future’s challenges.
The STUDIO model is nimble, efficient and scale-able by employing a small cadre of cloud-based COLLABORATORS to formulate its internal team. In this way we can take on projects from private homes to large urban planning projects, scaling with experts and ‘project-local’ partners tailored to the design task at hand.
Using strategies like designing with modeling collaborators in the cloud, employing co-working conference spaces and teleconferencing a truly sustainable model for a firm has been realized.
Our work embodies a timelessness in style with a modern edge, and we seek to find a shared vision and purpose with our clients that allows the built form to express the ideals of the vision. We believe that style should simply be an expression of the substance of the concept.
We believe in what we do. At the founding of Bob’s alma mater, Carnegie Mellon University, Andrew Carnegie proclaimed ‘our Heart is in the Work,’ which became its maxim. We think it’s a fitting motto for our studio’s commitment to architecture.
